Meet the residents
24th of November 2022, 19.00, Vetrinjski Gallery
Vetrinjska ulica 30, Maribor
On Thursday, the 24th of November, at 7 pm, we invite you to a presentation of earlier artistic projects and recent creative work by the current residents Siryne Eloued and Hamza Chakroun from Tunisia. The presentation and the discussion will take place in the Vetrinjski Gallery, where we hosting their exhibition "The Blue Engram", opened on 11 November.
In the first part of the event, we will take you through the exhibition, and in the second part we will listen to the guests presenting their work so far, as well as their start-up company, which is involved in creating virtual museums and exhibition spaces.
Through the exhibition "Blue Engram", Syrine Eloued and Hamza Chakroun explore the phenomenon of the web between subjective and collective memory. Symbolically identified in handmade lace, they based their concept on the similarity between the appearance of the links in lace products and the links formed in our brains, more specifically in engrams.
SIRYINE ELOUED (1994, TUNIS), after two years of higher education in psychology, joined the Higher Institute of Multimedia Arts of Manouba (Tunisia), where she obtained a diploma in cinema: writing and directing. She took part in the "One Women, One Camera, One Sound" programme at the Danish film school in Copenhagen and the Visual artists Bootcamp, AFCAcademy.
She oscillates between cinema, art-video, photography and print-making. She has made about ten short films, as well as several participations in collective exhibitions and festivals, among them are Jaou the Biennale of Photography in Tunis, DreamCity, Interference International Light Art Festival and an end-of-residency exhibition at the Center des Arts Vivants in Radès. where she spent 11 months there ritualising her practice around therapy through multiple media where she tries to track down the image, between the real and the dreamed, the visible and the occult, shadow and light.
HAMZA CHAKROUN (1985, Tunis) is a product designer by training. He also acquired knowledge of 3D design which, since 2007, has enabled him to pursue a career in architecture and interior design where he has worked on a wide variety of projects ranging from furniture modeling to the design of spaces (houses, shops, galleries of arts...). Later in his career and once again thanks to the 3D tool, he immersed himself in the artistic world with an interest in digital painting, abstract art and simulated forms.

7. 11. 2022, 16.00, Vetrinj Mansion courtyard, MariborYou are invited to an InterestSafari with the current guests of the GuestRoomMaribor residency programme, Siryne Eloued and Hamza Chakroun. See you on Monday, November 7th 2022 at 4 pm in the courtyard of the Vetrinj Mansion. Join the discussion and add your interpretation or opinion at the starting location or at one of the stations around the city.
The Interest Safari is a quest to find a meeting point between the theme of the visiting artist's research and the local environment. During a walk around the city, following the clues of the space, we learn about the topic in the form of a lecture and a talk. This time, the two guest artists reflect on the imprints that can be found in space, whether they are obvious or more hidden and the result of broader social impacts. We will look for patterns on walls, shadows of treetops and the traces left behind by history. Join us to get to know the city through this prism together!

BLUE ENGRAM
Siryne Eloued and Hamza Chakroun:
Exhibition opening: 11. 11., 6 pm, gallery VetrinjskiOn view: 11. 11. - 9. 12. 2022, every working day from 1 - 6 pm
The young Tunisian artists Siryne Eloued and Hamza Chakroun, explore the phenomenon of the web between subjective and collective memory, which they symbolically identify in lace and knitted creations such as napkins and tablecloths. Trough the project "Blue engram" they draw parallels between the appearance of the connections in these products and the connections formed in our brains, more specifically in engrams. The structure of the embroidered items is not the only similarity, the napkins can also represent forms of memory catalysts, especially if they were woven by our mothers and grandmothers. There is a similarity here with the function of the engram, which is a unit of cognitive information imprinted in physical matter, theorised to be the means by which memories are stored as biophysical or biochemical changes in the brain.
Siryne Eloued was born in Tunis in 1994. After two years of higher education in psychology, she joined the Higher Institute of Multimedia Arts of Manouba (Tunisia), where she obtained a diploma in cinema: writing and directing.
